Current Research Interests
The self assembly behaviour of 5-fluorouracil and N,N-dimethyl derivative, 5-fluoro-1,3-dimethyluracil under physiological conditions was explored. This self-assembly of 5-FU compared with its N,N-dimethyl derivative also showed lower cytotoxicity to K562 cells.
An anionic lipophilic dye, MC540 and cationic SAIL, C8mimCl employed to construct highly ordered fibrillar and vesicular aggregates. The synergistic interplay of electrostatic, hydrophobic, and pi-pi stacking interactions to construct the self-assembly and their concentration-dependent morphological transition was also explored.
The synthesis of BSA and HSA fibrils and the effect of three amphiphilic SAILs- C8mimCl, C12mimCl and C16mimCl was explored which showed that all these three SAILs have different extent of fibril inhibition effect.
A novel L-glycine amino acid derived cholesterol based SAIL has been explored for the preparation of IL-in-oil microemulsions and vesicles. These aggregates may potentially serve as good biomimicking models and possible drug carriers.
The location as well as the photo physical behaviours of hydrophobic C153 and hydrophilic R6G during micelle-vesicle-micelle transition of aqueous anionic surfactant, SDBS and imidazolium containing cationic surfactants was investigated.
Protein-capped silver NCs impregnated onto graphene oxide (GO) sheets was internalized into the K562 cell and the Ag NCs/GO assembly can act as a synergistic drug carrier for Imatinib along with this Ag NCs adsorbed on GO have a great potential to be used as X-ray computer tomography (CT) imaging contrasting agents.
The interaction of L-phenylalanine fibrils with two crown ethers- 15C5 and 18C6 was explored. Although, both the crown ethers have the ability to arrest fibril formation, but 18C6 was found to be a better candidate compared to 15C5.
The interaction between different sugars (sucrose, trehalose, and maltose) and phospholipid membrane of 1,2- dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phoshpocholine (DMPC) was investigated. The effects of different sugars on the rotational relaxation and solvation times of C480 and C153 surrounding DMPC membrane were also explored.
The formation of vesicles in aqueous solution of oleate ethyl amine and further the effect of NaCl was unveiled. The rich dynamic properties of this vesicular assembly and the vesicle fusion will further provide better insight into the growth of a protocell membrane.
