The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, founded in 1950, has grown to 19 departments, 7 centres and 9 schools. Today it provides instruction to about 3,400 undergraduate, 1,600 postgraduate, and 1,400 research scholars. The teaching community comprises nearly 500 faculty and 1,270 non-academic staff. Central Library
Started in 1951, the Central Library of IIT Kharagpur has grown to become one of the largest and finest technical libraries in Asia. It serves over 10,000 students, 700 faculty and 1,000+ staff across 19 departments, 7 centres, 8 schools and 15 research facilities.
Excellent Accommodation
All faculty members are provided with appropriate on-campus accommodation. Bungalows and flats of various designs and sizes are available. New high-quality accommodations are continually being constructed. Free maintenance services for civil, electrical, water and sanitary works are provided to all in-campus residents, with nearly uninterrupted power supply.
Central Research Facilities (CRF)
The Central Research Facility provides shared research and development infrastructure for all students of the institute. There are around 25 laboratories in the CRF complex, covering advanced instrumentation available to all departments and research groups.
